Rules on deciding when your waste container should be cleaned

  1. Type of waste
    • The type of waste you are disposing of will assist you in deciding when you should have your container clean. If you are disposing of a lot of smelly trash that can go bad, you may want to have your container cleaned more frequently. If you are disposing of mostly dry waste, you may be able to go a longer period without having to have your container cleaned.
  2. Location of Container
    •  There are a few key locations of a waste container such as the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, office, or even outside. When it comes to your kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom containers you may want to have those cleaned more periodically due to the type of waste going into them. Those containers are usually taking waste that can be a detriment to your health.
    • On the other hand, your office trash may only need to be cleaned every few months because it is mostly used for dry waste (if you are disposing of a lot of food waste in your office container you will need to increase the frequency).
    • Lastly, your outside trash container will need to be cleaned more frequently than any other container you use because it is taking all of your waste and it is exposed to the elements.
  3. Weather
    • This is a huge factor when it comes to the cleanliness of your waste container. The weather can cause numerous issues such as unwanted smells, attracting insects and rodents, and spreading bacteria and disease. Your outside container should be cleaned no less than every two weeks to decrease any unwanted issues that may occur. By not frequently cleaning this container, air pollution, respiratory diseases, and water pollution may increase.
